Why the code is "ch"
Old Factbook URLs used the CIA's GEC (formerly FIPS) country codes, which differ from ISO codes: China is "ch" in GEC. Famous traps include "ch" for China, "gm" for Germany, and "ja" for Japan.
Pages like this one exist for the 60 most-cited codes.
